When carrying out residual thickness measurements, the Company uses modern measuring equipment UK production, allowing to carry out the work without damage coating by ultrasonic method using the principle of multiple echo.
This thickness measurement method is based on time interval between two successive echo signals, reflected from the inner surface of the base metal after the incoming echo interface and the signal representing the border layer between the paint coating and the outer surface of the base metal. Thus, the true thickness of the base metal is output to the monitor device, which allows not to remove paint coating from the surface that shall be measured.

Visual and measuring control is one of the most simple, fast, informative non-destructive testing methods. This method is non-destructive testing applied in the assessment of the technical condition of materials, products, parts, components and welded joints in the operation of technical devices, and an input inspection in their manufacture at the enterprise.
The purpose of visual control - the identification, measurement, assessment of the visibility of surface defects using a simple-to-use optical instruments and tools (lenses, magnifying glasses, microscopes, endoscopes, radius patterns, test leads, line measuring metal, inclinometers, depth gauges, micrometers , calipers and the like) or without them.
In the shipbuilding and repair industries, the widespread use of this method has been under quality control of assembly units for welding, quality control of the implementation of the weld, weld quality control of metal at the end of welding. Visual inspection of welded seams should be carrying out for the detection of surface defects of the weld and heat affected zone. Measurement control is also used for checking geometric dimensions prepared for welding joints, including assembly gaps, dispacement of welding parts, shapes and sizes of edges preparation.

Advantages of visual measurement and control: ease of process control operations, speed processing of results availability and ease of use of the measuring equipment, the applicability of the method to a wide range of materials, semi-finished products.
Benefits of visual and measuring control: surface and through defects, the geometric dimensions of deviations from the set parameters, at minimum cost of conducting control.
The disadvantages of visually measuring control is the impossibility of finding hidden internal defects in materials and products, as well as the fact that the size of the defects detected by the naked eye is not less than 0.1 - 0.2 mm.
Dye penetrant inspection (DPI) is based upon capillary action, where low surface tension fluid penetrates into clean and dry surface-breaking discontinuities and is designed to identify the invisible or slightly visible to the naked eye surface and through defects (cracks, pores, sinks, lack of fusion, intergranular corrosion, fistulas, etc.) in the control objects defined their location, extent and orientation of the surface. This method is suitable for the detection of discontinuities with the transverse size of 0.1 - 500 microns, including through, surface cracks opening 0.5 - 1 micron and more.
Dye penetrant inspection of non-destructive testing allows you to control objects of all shapes and sizes, made of different construction materials: ferrous, non-ferrous metals and alloys (magnetic and non-magnetic), non-metallic materials (plastics, glass, ceramics). Dye penetrant inspection is widely used to control tightness, including monitoring the integrity of a weld, together with other methods for monitoring critical objects and objects during operation.

Penetrant testing is used as needed to identify small defects in size, which can not be applied to a visual inspection. Penetrant testing is used also for non-destructive testing of objects made of ferromagnetic materials, if their magnetic properties, shape, and location of the defect is not possible to achieve the required sensitivity in accordance with GOST 21105-87 magnetic particle method or magnetic particle inspection is not allowed to apply under the terms of operation of the facility.
The advantages of capillary flaw detection methods are: easy control of operations, the simplicity of the equipment, applicable to a wide range of materials, including non-magnetic metals.
The advantage of penetrant testing that it can be used not only to detect surface and through defects, but also get on their location, length, form and surface orientation of reliable information on the nature of the defect, and some of its causes (stress concentration, failure of technology and etc).
